For 16 – x wrong answers, Simon was deducted 3 (16 – x ) marks. Therefore, 5x – 3 (16 – x ) = 56 5x – 48 + 3x = 56 8x = 56 + 48 8x = 104 x = 13 Simon answered 13 questions correctly.
