L1 and L2 are two straight lines that intersect at right angle. A(2, 3) is a point on L1 and B(- 4, - 1) is a point on L2. M is the mid - point of AB, find the distance between M and the intersecting point of the 2 straight lines.

最佳解答:

Denote the intersection of L1 and L2 as P. If you construct a circle passing through A, B and P, then AB is the diameter. AM = MB = MP is the radius. Therefore, the required distance is MP = 1/2 AB = 1/2 √[ (2 + 4)2 + (3 + 4)2 ] = 1/2 √( 62 + 72 ) = 1/2 √(85) = √(85)/2
